Swan River : Jerratt Drive Wrecks- East Femantle
Getting There : Head South on the Kwinana Freeway towards Fremantle and turn off the Canning Hwy Exit. Head towards Fremantle on Canning Hwy until you arrive at Stock Road. Turn right off Canning hwy onto Stock Road. Proceed to the next round about which should be Preston Point Road. Turn left into Preston Point Road traveling through four round about’s until you reach Wauhop Road on the left and has a different name on the right that being Riverside Road. Turn right off preston point road into Riverside Road. Travel a short distance and turn right into Jerrat Drive. Travel 300 meters and there will be a small car park on the left with grass verge.
Entry Pont: Walk to the North of the car park and you will see a small access road to the scout hall. Walk down this access road and half way down a staircase will appear on your felt follow this down to the waters edge. It is possible to enter via the Jetty in front of the Scout hall however if it is in use then avoid this as they may tell you to leave and could jeopardize further access to the site via this route.
The Dive Site: Depth is to around 12 meters where the wreck are located. Looking out from the rivers edge you will see a Red Channel marker. Taking a bearing on this there will be a mooring float i line with this. If you proceed down that mooring which is around 80 meters swim you can descend down and find a line attaching the two wreck together. There are approximately 80 meters apart.
There are two wrecks one being a badge around 30 meters long by 10 meters wide and 800 mm in height. The other wreck is a chinese junk which is deteriorating rapidly and is around 15 meters by 6 meters wide and 2 meters in height.
Please try avoid dropping onto the wreck as it is brittle and significant damage has occurred lately as it use to stand over 4 meters tall unitl 12 months ago. |
