| IDC PREP TOPICS |
Review the Diving Knowledge Workbook thoroughly. Complete all available Divemaster exams (physics, physiology, equipment, skills and the environment and Recreational Dive Planner). Use the Encyclopedia of Diving as a Reference. This is knowledge that you should be familiar. This revision of the Divemaster theory is crucial in order for you to be successful at the IE, so study these well in advance, it will give you more time during the IDC to focus on the teaching aspect and the PADI system. Practice your skill demonstrations, focusing on the following skills: Mask removal and replacement, scuba unit removal and replacement, Weight belt removal and replacement, fin pivot both oral and low pressure inflator hose, hovering, buddy breathing stationary and the swimming controlled emergency swimming ascent (CESA). Practice rescue skill scenario number seven, unconscious diver at the surface and use your rescue cards as a prompt.
Answer all the knowledge reviews in the Instructor Candidate Workbook. If you have already have one, make sure it had the PADI decal which is needed for you to sit the IE. Answering these knowledge reviews in advance will help you understand the relevant topics being presented and enables you to relax a little more during the IDC and allow you more time to prepare for your teaching presentations.
Obtain a current Instructor Manual and become familiar with its contents. Answer the standards exam in the Instructor Candidate Workbook |
| OUR IDC PROGRAM |
The standard IDC is divided into two distinct segments.
- The first segment is the 6 day PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course.
- The second portion is the 6 day PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Together the two courses combine to encompass the entire IDC.
Both courses must be completed before attending the PADI Instructor Examination (IE).
Our IDC is actually run as four programs in one:
Each segment can be scheduled as a stand-alone course or completed all at one time.
Program One : 2 days (Optional) IDC preparation study and prep workshop
Program Two : 4 day Assistant Instructor course
Program Three: 6 day OWSI Course
Program Four: 2 day Emergency First Response Instructor course and the PADI Oxygen Administration Distinctive Specialty course
The last Step is the 2 day evaluation facilitated by PADI staff namely the PADI Instructor Examination (IE).
The IDC preparation study and prep workshop is optional but highly recommended for everyone. Your preparation is the key to success, we will explain:
On day 5 of the IDC we will be in open water and we have a rescue workshop session arranged concentrating mainly on exercise #7 elaborating on the objectives stated in the PADI Rescue Diver section of the instructor manual or on the PADI Rescue slates.
On day 9 of the IDC we have the Adventures in Diving Program scheduled and a dry Adventure workshop. Here we will elaborate on the instructor outlines in the instructor manual outlining the core objectives the candidates need to understand particularly teaching in this environment. we will highlight the benefits of understanding the outlines not only for IE purposes but also for real life scenarios. We will tie knots and work through adventure slates and compass work. Real emphasis will be placed on promoting these courses to your future students.
On day 11 of the IDC we have an Adventure in Diving and a rescue workshop C and D presentation on the beach and also a Specialty Diver Course workshop. Candidates will role play adventure and rescue scenarios followed by an open water dive. We will use the compass, lift bag, rope for tying knots, pocket mask, a line to measure distance and anything else candidates might need to meet PADI objectives. Not only is this valuable to pass the IE but candidates will see the features and benefits to understanding the basic concepts of presenting in real life |
